The Town of Pendleton is accepting resumes for the vacant position of Assistant Town Planner/Code Enforcement Officer. This position focuses on assisting the Town Planner with planning and mapping, and enforces laws and ordinances regarding zoning, business licenses, the International Property Maintenance Code, and regulations within the Town of Pendleton.

Job duties:

• Reviews applications for permits as well as Town planning documents.

• Assists with various Boards of the Town Planning Department.

• Maintains a firm understanding of all municipal planning.

• Assists with all levels of planning as directed by the Town Planner.

• Assists with the development of small area plans as needed.

• Conducts field investigations to identify violations of nuisance, zoning, junk and debris, abandoned vehicles, housing, life safety, and other related Town of Pendleton Codes.

• Maintains records: photographic evidence, invoices, liens, notices, and orders. Makes personal contact with responsible persons and performs follow-up investigations to ensure remedial action has been taken.

• Investigates complaints relative to zoning and violations of code enforcement ordinances.

• Issues warnings and/or citations as required; appears in court to testify regarding code enforcement cases.

• Physically inspects properties to determine compliance with Town ordinances.

• Prepares and sends letters to businesses and property owners explaining code violations.

• Serves various criminal or civil notices or official documents related to enforcement of ordinances

. • Makes court appearances for any citations issued and develops and maintains accurate case files.

• Retrieves permit information from the computer; verifies legal data including owners, tax records, and other necessary data.

• Compiles a variety of data regarding code enforcement; prepares daily, monthly, and annual reports of activities.

• Reports all accidents and incidents (including near misses) as soon as they occur.

• Works a preassigned, variable shift using own judgment in deciding course of action; expected to handle difficult situations without assistance.

• Maintains normal availability by radio or telephone for consultation, with appropriate Town personnel on major emergencies or precedent setting.

• Maintains contact with police supervisory personnel to coordinate investigation activities, provide mutual assistance during emergency situations and provide general information about Department activities.

• Carries out duties in conformance with Federal, State, County, and Town laws and ordinances.

  • Other duties as prescribed by the Town Planner.

Qualifications:

• An associate’s or higher degree in planning, geography, economics, or a related field is preferred.

• One year of experience in town planning with knowledge of mapping and GIS.

• One year of experience in code enforcement is preferred.

• Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Have the ability to learn the applicable laws, ordinances & regulations.

• Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

• Possess a current SC driver’s license.

• Must pass a background check.

Pay info: Minimum yearly salary range from $35,500 to $50,500 with an expected starting salary of $45,000 DOE along with a great benefits package.
