Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) Project Information
PROJECT BACKGROUND
In 2023, the Town of Pendleton completed a rewrite of its Comprehensive Plan and refreshed the community’s vision for the future. As part of the new Plan, it was recommended that the Town’s Zoning and Development Ordinances be rewritten to codify the new vision. This project will accomplish that strategy. During the Comprehensive Planning process, the Town actively encouraged community participation, and the zoning process requires a similar commitment to ensure a code that accurately represents the community’s vision.
GOALS FOR PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT
The Town has declared that in developing this revised ordinance, the process must generate: - Community Goodwill and Buy-In - Public Confidence in Local Government - Excitement and Enthusiasm Among the Community - Positive Press - Success for Subsequent Planning Efforts This Public Engagement Plan strategizes to achieve those goals.
LEVEL OF INFLUENCE
In an effort to collaborate with the public in seeking their time and opinions, we promise to engage the general public in all key activities and decisions and to incorporate their input into the final documents. However, we understand that consensus will not always be attainable in the face of conflicting opinions. We promise to navigate those decisions rationally and transparently. The Town Council holds the ultimate authority relating to content and approval, but the public input will be important to their consideration.
UDO Steering Committee
Town Council appointed a UDO Steering Committee to assist with public input and to have residents be a part of this important process.
